Living in Gratitude
Thanksgiving is my favorite celebration and it sits squarely in my favorite time of year. The cooler weather always pulls me outside where I can soak up the change in the world around me; breathing deeply the smell of wet dirt and the crispness of transition. It's the time of year I take stock - to make and actually go to those annual doctor and dental visits; to reflect and contemplate on where life has taken me; and to ...begin ...again.
Thanksgiving is a time to pause and give a nod to those in our lives who provide guidance and comfort, structure and questions, love and acceptance. And, perhaps a self-nod as well to acknowledge all that has been achieved, to appreciate our gifts and talents, to reaffirm our value to the world. This expressed gratitude, this simple act of acknowledgment has the power to change everything. Pausing, taking a breath and recognizing what is really important in life - not the money or the accumulation of materials things - but the authentic, grounding, foundation of who you are, who is with you, and how you spend your days. Reflect and give thanks, reflect and choose your path forward, consciously, intentionally and with gratitude.
Activity:
Take a few moments to look your friends and family in the eyes and say "Thank You for all you do for me." Write a few cards and share how you feel, explain to that special someone (or perhaps a complete stranger) how they have impacted your life. Pause to contemplate your direction and make an intentional step forward in the direction of your heart.
