Perspective

Have you ever been convinced that...

  • your way is the right way?
  • your answer or opinion is the truth?
  • your understanding, the only possibility?

We all get lost in our own reality at some point - believing we hold the the only truth, believing there is nothing else to consider. This reality shapes and molds us, providing confidence and security over time. BUT if we are not careful, if we do not pay attention, this assumed truth will hold us back, keep us locked in old patterns and stunt our growth. When we believe that our truth is the only truth, then we become arrogant and judgmental. This can occur without conscious intention - we simply see it as a fulfillment of our life experience - we were right before, we are right now. By declaring ourselves to be right, we close ourselves off from hearing the wisdom of others. We don't learn, we don't grow - we swirl ever tighter within ourselves - hence the need for a different perspective.

There are always alternative ways to seeing the same reality. For example, take a look at the quote above. When we think about the environment from the perspective of inheritance, we see life through the lens of self-righteousness - it drives our behavior, creating in us a belief that we are privileged and deserving. However if we view it as something "borrowed from our children" then our role becomes one of caretaker and protector, instilling in us a moral obligation to keep it in pristine condition. This simple flip of the coin changes our attitude and corresponding actions. So, what would you do differently if you lived your life from a place where...

  • your way was one way?
  • your answer or opinion was an alternative?
  • your understanding, one possibility?

and what might you create for yourself along that path?
